{"id":16203,"date":"2012-06-22T09:41:39","date_gmt":"2012-06-22T07:41:39","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/businesstech.co.za\/news\/?p=16203"},"modified":"2012-06-22T13:50:15","modified_gmt":"2012-06-22T11:50:15","slug":"vodacom-cautions-against-rising-sim-swap-fraud","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/businesstech.co.za\/news\/mobile\/16203\/vodacom-cautions-against-rising-sim-swap-fraud\/","title":{"rendered":"Vodacom cautions against rising SIM swap fraud"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a title=\"Vodacom\" href=\"http:\/\/businesstech.co.za\/forum\/showthread.php\/1639-Vodacom\">Vodacom<\/a> has noted that SIM swap fraud attempts are on the rise in South Africa.<\/p>\n<p>The group says that fraudsters who engage in SIM swap fraud are posing as cellphone company representatives in an attempt to fool customers who end up being victims of internet banking fraud.<\/p>\n<p>SIM swap fraud is a technique used by criminals to defraud unsuspecting internet banking users. Once they have acquired the victim\u2019s banking details and other personal information through phishing scams, the fraudsters then call the network operator posing as the customer and requests a SIM swap. This, according to Vodacom, will cancel the customer\u2019s SIM connection and the fraudsters will have access to the customer\u2019s mobile line.
