title=\"Research in Motion (RIM)\" href=\"http:\/\/mybroadband.co.za\/vb\/showthread.php\/313525-Research-in-Motion-%28RIM%29\">Research in Motion<\/a> is considering splitting its business in two, separating its struggling handset manufacturing division from its messaging network, The Sunday Times reported.<\/p>\n<p>RIM, which last month said it had hired JP Morgan and RBC Capital to look at its strategic options, could break off its handset division into a separate listed company or sell it, the British newspaper reported without citing sources.<\/p>\n<p>Potential buyers would include <a title=\"Amazon\" href=\"http:\/\/businesstech.co.za\/forum\/showthread.php\/1885-Amazon\">Amazon<\/a> and <a title=\"Facebook\" href=\"http:\/\/businesstech.co.za\/forum\/showthread.php\/1710-Facebook\">Facebook<\/a>, it reported, adding that RIM&#8217;s messaging network could also be sold, or opened up to rivals such as <a title=\"Apple\" href=\"http:\/\/businesstech.co.za\/forum\/showthread.php\/1648-Apple\">Apple<\/a> and <a title=\"Google\" href=\"http:\/\/businesstech.co.za\/forum\/showthread.php\/1719-Google\">Google<\/a> to generate income.<\/p>\n<p>An alternative option would be to keep the company together but sell a stake to a larger technology firm such as <a title=\"Microsoft\" href=\"http:\/\/businesstech.co.za\/forum\/showthread.php\/1715-Microsoft\">Microsoft<\/a>, the newspaper said.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Related
