The\u00a0stepdaughter of current Eskom boss, Matshela Koko, was handed contracts for her company worth R1 billion from the state energy firm, according to a report in the Sunday Times.<\/p>\n
The report stated that\u00a0Koketso Choma\u00a0was appointed as a director at Impulse International in April 2016, after which it received eight contracts from the division of Eskom which Koko\u00a0headed up.<\/p>\n
Koko was appointed Eskom acting CEO in December, having joined the company in 1996.<\/p>\n
Impulse International \u2013 an engineering and project management company \u2013 has received R1.8 billion in contracts from Eskom, according to the report, with R1 billion coming after\u00a0Choma was appointed as director at the company.<\/p>\n
The paper stated that Koko was unaware that Choma worked for the engineering firm until four weeks ago. Choma, who is 26,\u00a0 has since resigned from her position.<\/p>\n
The report stated that Koko was also named in the\u00a0public protector\u2019s state capture report for authorising a payment of R600 million\u00a0to the Gupta-owned Tegeta.<\/p>\n
The news comes after\u00a0National Treasury warned that<\/strong><\/a>\u00a0Eskom\u2019s delay in signing power purchase agreements with renewable energy independent power producers \u2013\u00a0 whose bids were approved by the Department of Energy \u2013\u00a0could result in manufacturers going out of business.<\/p>\n
