{"id":166235,"date":"2017-03-27T09:02:39","date_gmt":"2017-03-27T07:02:39","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/businesstech.co.za\/news\/?p=166235"},"modified":"2017-03-27T09:03:31","modified_gmt":"2017-03-27T07:03:31","slug":"acting-eskom-ceo-to-face-investigation-over-tenders","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/businesstech.co.za\/news\/energy\/166235\/acting-eskom-ceo-to-face-investigation-over-tenders\/","title":{"rendered":"Acting Eskom CEO to face investigation over tenders"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The DA says it will request that public protector, Advocate Busisiwe Mkhwebane, launch an investigation into Eskom CEO Matshela Koko for reportedly awarding tenders worth R1 billion to Impulse International, a company of which his stepdaughter is a director.<\/p>\n<p>The Sunday Times reported that 27-year old Koketso Choma, was handed contracts for her company worth R1 billion from the state energy firm.<\/p>\n<p>The report stated that Choma\u00a0was appointed as a director at Impulse International in April 2016, after which it received eight contracts from the division of Eskom which Koko\u00a0headed up.<\/p>\n<p>Impulse International \u2013 an engineering and project management company \u2013 has received R1.8 billion in contracts from Eskom, according to the report, with R1 billion coming after\u00a0Choma was appointed as director at the company.<\/p>\n<p>Eskom told <a href=\"http:\/\/www.fin24.com\/Economy\/Eskom\/matshela-kokos-stepdaughter-nets-r1bn-in-eskom-contracts-20170326\" target=\"_blank\">Fin24<\/a> on Sunday that Koko was unaware that Choma worked for the engineering firm until recently.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cKoko became aware of his stepdaughter\u2019s involvement in Impulse International, upon which Mr Koko requested his twenty-seven-year-old stepdaughter, Ms Choma, who is a qualified chartered accountant, to resign as a director and shareholder,\u201d Eskom said in a statement.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis was duly done by Ms Choma in September and October 2016.
