{"id":166697,"date":"2017-03-28T13:36:41","date_gmt":"2017-03-28T11:36:41","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/businesstech.co.za\/news\/?p=166697"},"modified":"2017-03-28T13:36:59","modified_gmt":"2017-03-28T11:36:59","slug":"why-south-africas-top-restaurant-is-no-longer-one-of-the-best-in-the-world","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/businesstech.co.za\/news\/lifestyle\/166697\/why-south-africas-top-restaurant-is-no-longer-one-of-the-best-in-the-world\/","title":{"rendered":"Why South Africa&#8217;s best restaurant is no longer one of the top 25 in the world"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The World\u2019s 50 Best Restaurants has announced its 2017 list of best restaurants ranked ahead of its annual awards event on 5 April.<\/p>\n<p>Two South African restaurants made the top 100\u00a0&#8211; Woodstock&#8217;s\u00a0<a title=\"The Test Kitchen by Luke Dale-Roberts\" href=\"http:\/\/www.eatout.co.za\/venue\/the-test-kitchen-by-luke-dale-roberts\/\" target=\"_blank\">The Test Kitchen<\/a> at number 63 on the list and Constantia&#8217;s\u00a0<a title=\"La Colombe\" href=\"http:\/\/www.eatout.co.za\/venue\/la-colombe\/\" target=\"_blank\">La Colombe<\/a> at 73.<\/p>\n<p>These are also the two restaurants that took the top\u00a0two places in the recent\u00a02016 Eat Out Mercedes-Benz Restaurant Awards.<\/p>\n<p>While the accomplishments of the two restaurants are worth praising, the Test Kitchen saw one of the biggest drops on the list &#8211; dropping from 22 in 2016.<\/p>\n<p>Speaking to <strong><a href=\"http:\/\/www.eatout.co.za\/article\/two-south-african-restaurants-make-worlds-50-best-runners-list\/\" target=\"_blank\">Eat Out<\/a><\/strong>,\u00a0the World\u2019s 50 Best Restaurants academy chair for Africa and Indian Ocean Islands, Tamsin Snyman explained the drop:<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI am of the opinion that <a title=\"The Test Kitchen by Luke Dale-Roberts\" href=\"http:\/\/www.eatout.co.za\/venue\/the-test-kitchen-by-luke-dale-roberts\/\">The Test Kitchen<\/a> did not obtain a listing within the top 50 benchmark mainly due to the fact that the restaurant was closed for almost two months last year for major interior design and menu changes.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;The policy of only taking bookings one month in advance also would\u00a0have made it difficult for judges to get a booking,&#8221; she said.
