The DA has announced that\u00a0institute urgent legal action to stop what it calls an “assault on our Constitution and our people”, seeking an interdict to prevent president Jacob Zuma from reappointing ministers.<\/p>\n
The party said that it will file papers in the Western Cape High Court, seeking an urgent interdict to halt the swearing in of Jacob Zuma\u2019s compromised cabinet members, and the implementation of his reshuffle, which is set to take place at 18h00 this evening.<\/p>\n
“Last night\u2019s decision has devastating ramifications for the future of our country,” said part leader Mmusi Maimane.<\/p>\n
“The Guptas now not only have unfettered access to our national key points as they did to the Waterkloof airbase, to multi-million rand coal tenders, and to cabinet appointments \u2013 but crucially now hold the key to our National Treasury and our R1.56 trillion national budget.”<\/p>\n
The part is said to be asking for the interdict on the basis that president Zuma was not acting rationally in his decision to fire finance minister Pravin Gordhan.<\/p>\n
“The president must be removed from office, and it is the role of Parliament to do so. It is the House that elected him, and it is the House that must remove him,” Maimane said.<\/p>\n
