{"id":167719,"date":"2017-03-31T15:00:41","date_gmt":"2017-03-31T13:00:41","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/businesstech.co.za\/news\/?p=167719"},"modified":"2017-03-31T14:11:21","modified_gmt":"2017-03-31T12:11:21","slug":"zumas-approval-rating-at-its-worst-ever-levels","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/businesstech.co.za\/news\/government\/167719\/zumas-approval-rating-at-its-worst-ever-levels\/","title":{"rendered":"Zuma&#8217;s approval rating at its worst-ever levels"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>President Jacob Zuma&#8217;s performance approval rating has dropped\u00a0to its lowest point ever, according to research agency Kantar TNS.<\/p>\n<p>The study was conducted between 15 and 30 March 2017 among a sample of 2,000 South African adults (age 18+) living in the seven major metropolitan areas of South Africa.<\/p>\n<p>The sample is representative in terms of the area, race and gender profile of metropolitan South Africa, the\u00a0researchers noted.<\/p>\n<p>President Jacob Zuma&#8217;s performance approval rating has dropped below its previous low of 21% in February 2016 to 20% in March 2017. In addition,\u00a0only 20% of all South Africans living in metropolitan areas feel that Zuma is doing a good job as president of South Africa.<\/p>\n<p>This change in perception was also reflected in the survey&#8217;s negative reporting with the number of people who disagreed that President Zuma was doing a good job increasing from 67% to 71%.<\/p>\n<p><a  data-lightbox=\"post-image\" href=\"https:\/\/businesstech.co.za\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/03\/Graph-01.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-167733 size-full\" src=\"https:\/\/businesstech.co.za\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/03\/Graph-01.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"625\" height=\"278\" srcset=\"https:\/\/businesstech.co.za\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/03\/Graph-01.jpg 625w, https:\/\/businesstech.co.za\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/03\/Graph-01-300x133.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 625px) 100vw, 625px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<h3 class=\"my-4\"><strong>Next president<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p>To gauge support for candidates for presidency in 2019, respondents were asked \u2018to what extent they would support\u2019 certain candidates to be the president of South Africa.<\/p>\n<p>Two candidates from the majority party and leaders of the two key opposition parties were included in the evaluation.<\/p>\n<p>Cyril Ramaphosa, the current deputy president, garnered support from more than 50% of metro South Africans (56% would \u2018support a little bit\u2019 to \u2018definitely support\u2019).<\/p>\n<p>Mmusi Maimane, leader of the Democratic Alliance was supported by 42% of those surveyed with Nkosazana Dlamini-Zuma just behind at 41.8%.
