Political parties and civil society groups have organised a number of marches around the country for\u00a0Friday, 7 April, in demonstration against President Jacob Zuma and his decision to axe finance minister Pravin Gordhan.<\/p>\n
While several groups, including Save South Africa, have already begun occupying key points earlier this week, other parties and organisations have\u00a0issued a \u00a0number of new marches, times, routes and subsequently amendments as they scramble to prepare for the protest on Friday.<\/p>\n
A notable omission from the planned protest action including trade union Cosatu – who in an official press statement noted it was not comfortable with “selective outrage” and that when the union had previously taken \u00a0to the streets “others just sat and watched”.<\/p>\n
Zwelinzima Vavi head of the recently formed\u00a0South African Federation of Trade Unions (Saftu) also noted that\u00a0the federation did not condone the mass action among fears that it was not known who had originally issued the call to action and that there was a possible third force acting as an “agent\u00a0provocateur”.<\/p>\n

The Democratic Alliance has amended its planned route for its “March for Change”\u00a0following reported\u00a0threats of violence from the ANC\u2019s Youth League, as well as certain branches within the ANC.<\/p>\n
The party confirmed that changes to the route had to be made following consultations with the SAPS who confirmed that it could not offer full protection on the old route.\u00a0The March for Change will now begin at the Westgate Transport Hub at 10h00 on Friday morning, and will end at Mary Fitzgerald Square, Johannesburg.<\/p>\n
