President Jacob Zuma emerged victorious at the ANC’s\u00a0national working committee on Tuesday, 4\u00a0April, after the party confirmed that it had\u00a0rejected the ANC\u2019s Integrity Commission\u2019s recommendation for him to step down, the Mail & Guardian reports.<\/p>\n
In addition to this victory, deputy Cyril Ramaphosa, secretary general Gwede Mantashe and treasurer general Zweli Mkhize were all forced to apologise to the president for\u00a0criticising him in public after his decision to remove Gordhan according to a report by the Mail & Guardian<\/a><\/strong>, citing party insiders.<\/p>\n The sources claimed that\u00a0ANC chairperson\u00a0Baleka Mbete called out and contradicted Ramaphosa, Mantashe and Mkhize\u00a0– who said, in the media, that they were not consulted on the issue of firing Gordhan – saying that the three\u00a0had instead merely disagreed with the president’s decision.<\/p>\n Minutes of the meeting were erroneously sent out late Tuesday night, which included a note about how the ‘rebellious’ three officials were in the wrong.<\/p>\n The ANC quickly distanced itself from the minutes, however, saying that it does not reflect the position of the party, nor is it considered an official statement.<\/p>\n The party is expected to hold a media briefing on Wednesday morning to discuss the full outcomes of the meeting, although\u00a0insiders indicate that it is clear that Zuma will face no further internal\u00a0repercussions for his decision to axe Gordhan.<\/p>\n
