{"id":16893,"date":"2012-07-02T10:00:31","date_gmt":"2012-07-02T08:00:31","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/businesstech.co.za\/news\/?p=16893"},"modified":"2012-07-02T11:37:33","modified_gmt":"2012-07-02T09:37:33","slug":"strict-mobile-law-in-effect-in-cape-town","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/businesstech.co.za\/news\/telecommunications\/16893\/strict-mobile-law-in-effect-in-cape-town\/","title":{"rendered":"Strict mobile law in effect in Cape Town"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Cape Town motorists caught talking or texting on their cellphone would be fined R500 and have their phone confiscated for a day, it was reported on Monday.<\/p>\n<p>The Cape Times reported that the new bylaw, in effect from Monday, formed part of the provincial road safety campaign to cut road deaths in half by 2014.<\/p>\n<p>Safety and security mayoral committee member JP Smith said Cape Town was the only city where the road death toll was decreasing steadily, from 1739 deaths in 2008 to 1321 in 2011.<\/p>\n<p>Confiscated cellphones could be collected at the Gallow Hills Traffic Department in Green Point after 24 hours.
