Opposition parties have announced plans to step up their anti-Zuma protests, after thousands of South Africans took to the streets in protest\u00a0on Friday, 7 April.<\/p>\n
The\u00a0African Christian Democratic Party\u201a African People\u2019s Convention\u201a Congress of the People\u201a Democratic Alliance\u201a Economic Freedom Fighters\u201a Inkatha Freedom Party and the United Democratic Movement all confirmed to Times Live<\/a><\/strong> that they would be participating in a\u00a0national day of action on Wednesday, 12 April.<\/p>\n The march (which happens to coincide with president Zuma’s 75th birthday) will begin at midday in Church Square, Pretoria before making its way to in from of the union buildings.<\/p>\n \u201cZuma\u2019s Cabinet reshuffle was not in the best interests of the country in that it protected and rewarded incompetent ministers who have rendered state institutions into disarray like Faith Muthambi (SABC) and Bathabile Dlamini (social grants redistribution)\u201a\u201d the parties said in a joint statement.<\/p>\n In addition. they condemned Zuma’s use of a bogus intelligence report to oust finance minister Pravin Gordhan, and warned that the country’s downgrade to junk status would lead to an increase in interest rates.<\/p>\n \u201cWe call on all South Africans to come out in even more numbers on 12 of April, 2017 on the National Day of Action to continue our rolling mass action against the Zuma regime. We must all not retreat until Zuma steps down and a new president is inaugurated in South Africa.”<\/p>\n
