{"id":17085,"date":"2012-07-05T10:35:40","date_gmt":"2012-07-05T08:35:40","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/businesstech.co.za\/news\/?p=17085"},"modified":"2012-07-05T10:54:21","modified_gmt":"2012-07-05T08:54:21","slug":"namibia-leapfrogs-sa-with-dvb-t2-launch","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/businesstech.co.za\/news\/hardware\/17085\/namibia-leapfrogs-sa-with-dvb-t2-launch\/","title":{"rendered":"Namibia leapfrogs SA with DVB-T2 launch"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>While South Africa has\u00a0delayed the turnover to digital television for a number of years, neighbouring country, Namibia, has launched a digital offering of its own.<\/p>\n<p>MultiChoice Namibia has unveiled GOtv, a low-cost digital television product using the latest generation Digital Video Broadcast standard, DVB-T2, in Windhoek.<\/p>\n<p>For South Africa,\u00a0the new digital terrestrial television (DTT) signal is only scheduled to be switched on in Q3 2012, following years of delays.<\/p>\n<p>The DVB-T2 technology standard deployed by GOtv allows for up to 20 channels per frequency, this is different from DVB-T1 technology that only allows for 12 channels per frequency.<\/p>\n<p>According to\u00a0MultiChoice Namibia, GOtv offers &#8220;local channels made in Africa for Africa&#8221; along with international channels for a monthly fee of N$55 \u00a0per month for 15 channels.<\/p>\n<p>Kalumbi Shangula, chairman of the board of\u00a0MultiChoice Namibia said: &#8220;DVB-T2 technology is the most advanced digital terrestrial television technology worldwide.
