Telkom CEO Nombulelo Moholi says that there is no truth in the rumour that she is considering stepping down as Telkom CEO because of government interference.<\/p>\n
In recent months, government\u2019s interference in Telkom\u2019s affairs were clearly illustrated after cabinet took a decision to block a deal between Telkom and Korea Telecom Corporation.<\/p>\n
\u201cTelkom has been informed by the Honourable Minister of Communications that the proposed transaction between the companies had been presented to cabinet on 30 May 2012, and that cabinet had taken the decision not to support the transaction as proposed,\u201d Telkom said in a statement on 1 June 2012.<\/p>\n
Speculation followed that government was considering delisting and nationalising the struggling telecoms operator. Government later denied that it had any plans to buy up shares in the company.<\/p>\n
Rumours started circulating that Moholi was considering stepping down as Telkom CEO due to government interference, which made it difficult for her to execute her strategy to move the company forward.<\/p>\n
According to one source close to the company, her decision will hinge off of government\u2019s decisions over the next few months.<\/p>\n
However, Moholi dismissed these rumours, saying \u201cthis is not true\u201d.<\/p>\n
