Some of South Africa’s biggest civil society movements, political parties and religious groups have united under a single organisation dubbed “The Freedom Movement”.<\/p>\n
The new organisation emerged after a busy morning of meetings between the various groups, called in order to formulate a plan of action after calling\u00a0for president Jacob Zuma’s\u00a0resignation or removal from office.<\/p>\n
The immediate objective of this group is to help facilitate a large-scale protest outside Parliament, when the motion of no confidence is debated, it said in an official statement<\/a><\/strong>.<\/p>\n “The removal of former minister of finance, Pravin Gordhan, is a culmination of a plot by Zuma and his associates to capture the state and loot resources from the National Treasury.”<\/p>\n “All this is done by a president who has been found by the Constitutional Court to have violated South Africa\u2019s Constitution.”<\/p>\n Other aims of the movement include the offer of continued protection of the Constitution, a restoration of power to the people and to safeguard the state so as to implement economic development.<\/p>\n All the organisations that form part of this new group will gather at Freedom Park, on Freedom Day: 27 April.<\/p>\n Read the official press release and mission statement here<\/a><\/strong>.<\/p>\n “The time has come to reclaim our freedom” – @MmusiMaimane<\/a> #FreedomMovement<\/a> pic.twitter.com\/9RBtULaSAQ<\/a><\/p>\n \u2014 Democratic Alliance (@Our_DA) April 20, 2017<\/a><\/p>\n
