{"id":171183,"date":"2017-04-20T13:54:21","date_gmt":"2017-04-20T11:54:21","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/businesstech.co.za\/news\/?p=171183"},"modified":"2017-04-20T16:22:51","modified_gmt":"2017-04-20T14:22:51","slug":"the-south-african-who-cracked-times-100-most-influential-people-list","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/businesstech.co.za\/news\/media\/171183\/the-south-african-who-cracked-times-100-most-influential-people-list\/","title":{"rendered":"The South African who cracked TIME&#8217;s 100 most influential people list"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>A South African medical doctor, Glenda Gray has been awarded a spot in TIME magazine&#8217;s prestigious 100 most influential people list as a <strong><a href=\"http:\/\/time.com\/collection\/2017-time-100\/4742691\/glenda-gray\/\" target=\"_blank\">pioneer <\/a><\/strong>in her field of HIV\/AIDS research.<\/p>\n<p>Gray is currently the president and CEO of the South African Medical Research Council and is widely acknowledged as one the few people on the forefront of Aids research worldwide.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Gray decided to fight the virus and the silence around it through research,&#8221; according to TIME editor Siobhan\u00a0O&#8217;Connor.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Thanks in part to her work on mother-to-child transmission, the number of babies born with HIV has dropped from 600,000 a year to 150,000.
