Public Protector, Busisiwe Mkwebane has agreed to furnish President Jacob Zuma’s legal team with previously withheld evidence of state capture in his ongoing case against\u00a0her predecessor’s State of Capture report.<\/p>\n
According to a 26 April report by Die Burger<\/a><\/strong>, the release of the additional evidence would now allow President Zuma\u2019s legal team to file new papers in their action\u00a0to set aside Madonsela\u2019s report.<\/p>\n Speaking to the paper, Public Protector spokesperson\u00a0Oupa Segalwe said that the names and other private information of several parties who gave evidence to Zuma was previously withheld from the published report for confidentiality reasons.<\/p>\n He indicated that\u00a0Mkhwebane, in her capacity as public protector, had subsequently approached the parties who had given evidence and asked for permission to hand this information over to President Zuma’s legal team.<\/p>\n Madonsela released the report in November 2016 as one of her last official actions in office.<\/p>\n However her successor,\u00a0Mkhwebane, has already indicated that she disagreed <\/a><\/strong>with a number of findings in the published report and went on record to say that while she would continue the action against President Zuma, she reserved the right to withdraw <\/a><\/strong>it following further legal consultations.<\/p>\n
