{"id":173003,"date":"2017-05-02T15:54:27","date_gmt":"2017-05-02T13:54:27","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/businesstech.co.za\/news\/?p=173003"},"modified":"2017-05-02T15:55:45","modified_gmt":"2017-05-02T13:55:45","slug":"no-evidence-of-would-be-zuma-assassin-plotting-a-coup-report","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/businesstech.co.za\/news\/government\/173003\/no-evidence-of-would-be-zuma-assassin-plotting-a-coup-report\/","title":{"rendered":"No evidence of would-be Zuma &#8216;assassin&#8217; plotting a coup: report"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The National Prosecuting Authority has admitted that it does not have any evidence that Elvis Ramosebudi tried to plot a coup by killing high profile government ministers, according to a report by <strong><a href=\"http:\/\/www.timeslive.co.za\/local\/2017\/05\/02\/NPA-admits-it-has-no-evidence-that-Elvis-was-plotting-a-coup\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Times Live<\/a><\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>Speaking to journalists outside the Johannesburg\u00a0Magistrate\u2019s Court on Tuesday,\u00a0NPA spokesman Phindi Louw confirmed that the prosecution did not have evidence of a coup in its possession.<\/p>\n<p>Instead, she noted that\u00a0the evidence indicated he had tried to incite Anglo American to fund crime by asking them for money to kill government ministers.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe proper charge that can be preferred is incitement.\u201d A conspiracy charge requires two or more people to conspire together to commit a crime. &#8220;Ramosebudi acted alone\u201a&#8221; she said.<\/p>\n<p>Ramesebudi made headlines last week after the Hawks arrested him for allegedly plotting a R60 million assassination plot to kill President Jacob Zuma.<\/p>\n<p>The police intelligence unit reportedly uncovered a letter penned by Ramosebudi detailing how he started the \u201cAnti-State Capture Death Squad Alliance\u201d, and targeted Zuma, former Eskom boss Brian Molefe and other pro-Zuma politicians.<\/p>\n<p>Following a brief appearance\u00a0 in the Johannesburg Magistrate\u2019s Court on Thursday, the\u00a0NPA on Tuesday asked for Ramosedi&#8217;s bail application to be postponed until Friday.
