{"id":173643,"date":"2017-05-07T07:31:04","date_gmt":"2017-05-07T05:31:04","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/businesstech.co.za\/news\/?p=173643"},"modified":"2017-05-07T07:31:04","modified_gmt":"2017-05-07T05:31:04","slug":"mantashe-approached-to-side-with-dlamini-zuma-in-anc-succession-race-report","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/businesstech.co.za\/news\/government\/173643\/mantashe-approached-to-side-with-dlamini-zuma-in-anc-succession-race-report\/","title":{"rendered":"Mantashe approached to side with Dlamini-Zuma in ANC succession race: report"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>ANC secretary general Gwede Mantashe is proving to be a key\u00a0figure in the party&#8217;s succession battle &#8211; which has not officially opened up yet, but continues anyway &#8211; as both front-runners in the race try to woo him to their team.<\/p>\n<p>According to a report by the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.news24.com\/SouthAfrica\/News\/ndz-camp-tries-to-woo-gwede-20170506\"><strong>City Press<\/strong><\/a>, lobbyists for Zuma&#8217;s preferred candidate, Nkosazana Dlamini-Zuma, have been trying to convince Mantashe to serve as deputy president on her slate, to add legitimacy to her campaign.<\/p>\n<p>However, two different people from that camp have reportedly received two different responses from the secretary general &#8211; one &#8216;giving (the idea) the green light&#8217; and another where he declined.<\/p>\n<p>KwaZulu-Natal ANC chairperson Sihle Zikalala confirmed the City Press confirmed that he had met with Mantashe to discuss having him join Dlamini-Zuma&#8217;s campaign, but was turned down.<\/p>\n<p>Meanwhile other leaders in KZN heard a different story, where Mantashe had agreed to join on.
