The Competition Commission has recommended the approval of Internet Solutions\u2019\u00a0acquisition of MWEB.<\/p>\n
Internet Solutions\u00a0is a subsidiary of Dimension Data, and\u00a0announced the deal on 2 December 2016.<\/p>\n
The\u00a0recommendation to the Competition Tribunal is\u00a0subject to public interest conditions relating to employment, it said.<\/p>\n
The Commission found that the proposed transaction is unlikely to substantially prevent or lessen competition in any market.<\/p>\n
In the event that the merging parties proceed with retrenchments, they must ensure that they follow the applicable Labour Relations Act processes.<\/p>\n
Saki Missaikos, MD\u00a0of Internet Solutions, said MWEB will run as a separate entity if the acquisition is approved.<\/p>\n
\u201cMWEB is one of South Africa\u2019s largest consumer ISPs and this acquisition will immediately give Internet Solutions a presence in the large and rapidly-growing consumer market,\u201d said Missaikos<\/a><\/strong>.<\/p>\n Internet Solutions told MyBroadband the strategy of its consumer ISP and Wi-Fi provider\u00a0AlwaysOn\u00a0remains as-is<\/a><\/strong>,\u00a0and it is business as usual for the company.<\/p>\n MWEB\u2019s enterprise Internet service provider division, MWEB Business, was acquired<\/a><\/strong> by Internet Solutions\u00a0in 2014 for R368 million.<\/p>\n Since then, MWEB Business has been rolled into Ignite,\u00a0a combination of\u00a0MWEB Business, IS Ignite, and IS Direct.<\/p>\n
