{"id":174109,"date":"2017-05-10T08:11:06","date_gmt":"2017-05-10T06:11:06","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/businesstech.co.za\/news\/?p=174109"},"modified":"2017-05-10T08:51:39","modified_gmt":"2017-05-10T06:51:39","slug":"government-looking-at-scrapping-k53-drivers-test-report","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/businesstech.co.za\/news\/motoring\/174109\/government-looking-at-scrapping-k53-drivers-test-report\/","title":{"rendered":"Government looking at scrapping K53 driver&#8217;s test: report"},"content":{"rendered":"<p data-bind=\"text: $data\">The\u00a0Department of Transport has supported the idea of scrapping the K53 testing system due to the high levels of corruption surrounding testing centres and the increasing death-toll on South African roads, according to a report by <strong><a href=\"http:\/\/www.iol.co.za\/dailynews\/news\/kwazulu-natal\/end-of-the-road-for-k53-9027081\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">IOL<\/a><\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p data-bind=\"text: $data\">Speaking at the launch\u00a0of the UN\u2019s Global Road Safety Week,\u00a0Deputy Transport Minister,\u00a0Sindisiwe Chikunga, noted that there was a growing concern about the\u00a0quality of drivers being produced.<\/p>\n<p data-bind=\"text: $data\">She referenced a recent\u00a0parliamentary portfolio committee in which\u00a0Makhosini Msibi, the chief executive at the Road Traffic Management Corporation (RTMC), indicated that the K53 system would need to be reviewed.<\/p>\n<p data-bind=\"text: $data\">\u201cThe RTMC is our state-owned company and also advises us. When it is time for you to get your licence, make sure that you don\u2019t buy it.
