{"id":174311,"date":"2017-05-10T19:00:24","date_gmt":"2017-05-10T17:00:24","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/businesstech.co.za\/news\/?p=174311"},"modified":"2017-05-10T18:03:52","modified_gmt":"2017-05-10T16:03:52","slug":"6-graphs-that-will-change-how-you-think-about-skilled-workers-in-south-africa","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/businesstech.co.za\/news\/business\/174311\/6-graphs-that-will-change-how-you-think-about-skilled-workers-in-south-africa\/","title":{"rendered":"6 graphs that will change what you think about skilled workers in South Africa"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The Employment Equity Commission for South Africa has released its 2016\/17 report, showing how the country&#8217;s skilled workforce has transformed in recent years.<\/p>\n<p>The EEC\u2019s report is based on 26,255 employment equity reports from companies across the country, compared to 25,030 EE reports it received in 2015.<\/p>\n<p>The bulk of the reports come from the private sector (94.8%) \u2013 representing 5.3 million workers \u2013 with the balance made up of non-profit organisations, state-owned enterprises, educational institutions and national, provincial and local government.<\/p>\n<p><strong>At a top and senior management level, white South Africans still occupy the majority of positions, as indicated in the following article:<br \/>\n<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Read:\u00a0<\/strong> <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/businesstech.co.za\/news\/business\/173911\/these-graphs-reveal-the-truth-about-black-and-white-management-in-south-africa\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">These graphs reveal the truth about black and white management in South Africa<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>A &#8216;positive trend&#8217; towards equitable representation is noted for the first time at professionally qualified\/ middle management level, the report said.<\/p>\n<p>Black South Africans, at 41.5%, leads in representation at this Level, it said.<\/p>\n<p><a  data-lightbox=\"post-image\" href=\"https:\/\/businesstech.co.za\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/05\/WorkforceEquity1-e1494423378582.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-174323\" src=\"https:\/\/businesstech.co.za\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/05\/WorkforceEquity1-e1494423378582.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"600\" height=\"378\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p><strong>Workforce profile at professionally qualified level for public and private sectors by race:<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><a  data-lightbox=\"post-image\" href=\"https:\/\/businesstech.co.za\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/05\/WorkforceEquity2-e1494429501632.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-174363\" src=\"https:\/\/businesstech.co.za\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/05\/WorkforceEquity2-e1494429501632.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"650\" height=\"321\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Black South Africans are mostly represented at the skilled technical occupational level, the government&#8217;s report found.<\/p>\n<p>More than two thirds of employees at this level are black, with 60.2% of this level being represented by the african group. &#8220;This remains below their EAP distribution, but is a movement in the right direction,&#8221; it said.<\/p>\n<p><a  data-lightbox=\"post-image\" href=\"https:\/\/businesstech.co.za\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/05\/WorkforceEquity3-e1494429698921.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-174365\" src=\"https:\/\/businesstech.co.za\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/05\/WorkforceEquity3-e1494429698921.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"650\" height=\"345\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>The report also suggested that both the private and public sector have made significant strides in employing black South Africans at this occupational\u00a0 level.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Africans have in fact exceeded their EAP (economically active population) distribution in the Public Sector.
