{"id":174885,"date":"2017-05-14T07:14:56","date_gmt":"2017-05-14T05:14:56","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/businesstech.co.za\/news\/?p=174885"},"modified":"2017-05-15T16:21:46","modified_gmt":"2017-05-15T14:21:46","slug":"government-to-begin-major-migration-over-to-cloud-services","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/businesstech.co.za\/news\/cloud-hosting\/174885\/government-to-begin-major-migration-over-to-cloud-services\/","title":{"rendered":"Government to begin major migration over to cloud services"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The State Information Technology Agency (SITA) is working on a massive project to migrate the South African government to cloud services, said its chief technology officer Pandelani Munyai.<\/p>\n<p>SITA is doing an application analysis, gathering information from all government departments to find out what software they use and which applications they already own, as\u00a0part of the initial stages of the project.<\/p>\n<p>Munyai made the statement\u00a0during a panel discussion at the 2017 MyBroadband Cloud, Hosting, and Security Conference.<\/p>\n<p>He said SITA has set itself deadlines, which have been\u00a0communicated to government departments to ensure the project remains on track.<\/p>\n<p>Munyai said there is a huge appetite from the government to migrate services into the cloud.<\/p>\n<p>There were issues with infrastructure in South Africa, however, which he said were not unique to the country.<\/p>\n<p>Other African countries face the same challenges, with limited government infrastructure spending, said\u00a0Munyai. \u201cOur infrastructure leaves a lot to be desired.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>For this reason, SITA has embarked on a tender process to partner with private industry players to ensure it receives reliable connectivity to cloud services.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cConnectivity is a very serious issue for cloud services.
