{"id":174919,"date":"2017-05-15T08:20:41","date_gmt":"2017-05-15T06:20:41","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/businesstech.co.za\/news\/?p=174919"},"modified":"2017-05-15T08:39:52","modified_gmt":"2017-05-15T06:39:52","slug":"government-plans-to-track-all-south-africans-who-leave-the-country-for-longer-than-3-months-report","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/businesstech.co.za\/news\/wealth\/174919\/government-plans-to-track-all-south-africans-who-leave-the-country-for-longer-than-3-months-report\/","title":{"rendered":"Government plans to track all South Africans who leave the country for longer than 3 months: report"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>South African citizens who plan to be out of the country for longer than three months will soon be compelled to\u00a0register with the government as a means of keeping track of South African abroad and curbing the high emigration rate, according to a report by the <strong><a href=\"http:\/\/www.netwerk24.com\/Nuus\/Politiek\/witskrif-soek-witvoetjie-en-bande-by-ekspats-20170513\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Rapport<\/a><\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>This follows cabinet approval of the Department of Home Affairs\u2019 White Paper on international migration,\u00a0detailing South Africa&#8217;s main emigration and immigration targets to be reached by 2063; how the country plans to deal with the flood of immigrants from neighbouring African countries; and policies that would include the free movement\u00a0of people within the SADC.<\/p>\n<p>This is the first time that emigration control has appeared in Home Affairs policy, according to the report,\u00a0and is directly attributed to the high number of skilled workers and taxes leaving the country.<\/p>\n<p>According to data published in the white paper, 520,000 South Africans became expats between 1989 and 2003.
