{"id":174923,"date":"2017-05-15T07:50:50","date_gmt":"2017-05-15T05:50:50","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/businesstech.co.za\/news\/?p=174923"},"modified":"2017-05-15T07:50:50","modified_gmt":"2017-05-15T05:50:50","slug":"5-important-things-happening-in-south-africa-today-58","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/businesstech.co.za\/news\/government\/174923\/5-important-things-happening-in-south-africa-today-58\/","title":{"rendered":"5 important things happening in South Africa today"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Here&#8217;s what is happening in and affecting South Africa today:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.enca.com\/south-africa\/president-publicly-endorses-nkosazana-dlamini-zuma-for-anc-leader\">President Jacob Zuma has confirmed what everyone already knew &#8211; that he endorses his ex-wife and former AU chair Nkosazana Dlamini-Zuma to succeed him as the next president of the ANC and South Africa. <\/a><\/strong>He publicly endorsed her at a gathering at\u00a0a church gathering in Bulwer in KwaZulu-Natal on Sunday. It was described as a &#8216;very intimate&#8217; endorsement, where Zuma sang the praises of his ex-wife saying he knew her better than any other comrade.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.bloomberg.com\/news\/articles\/2017-05-13\/south-africa-accepts-nuclear-plant-ruling-plans-to-start-over\">The South African government has decided that it will not appeal the court ruling that said its nuclear procurement process was unconstitutional, agreeing to start the whole process over again.<\/a><\/strong>\u00a0Energy Minister Mmamoloko Kubayi said that the government will start again in June 2017, with new agreements\u00a0with the five countries, and the process will be transparent with public consultation so that they do not end up in court every week.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li>Deputy president Cyril Ramaphosa has secured two &#8216;victories&#8217; in the race to be the next president of the ANC,<strong><a href=\"http:\/\/www.news24.com\/SouthAfrica\/News\/cyril-scoops-northern-cape-20170514-3\"> with supporters in the Northern Cape emerging victorious in that local elective conference<\/a><\/strong>, while<strong><a href=\"http:\/\/www.huffingtonpost.co.za\/2017\/05\/14\/west-rand-anc-and-youth-league-want-ramaphosa_a_22085470\/?utm_hp_ref=za-homepage\"> the ANC and ANC Youth League in the West Rand have also expressed their support for him<\/a><\/strong>.
