{"id":175053,"date":"2017-05-15T11:41:30","date_gmt":"2017-05-15T09:41:30","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/businesstech.co.za\/news\/?p=175053"},"modified":"2017-05-15T11:46:11","modified_gmt":"2017-05-15T09:46:11","slug":"watch-molefe-dances-as-eskom-employees-welcome-him-back-to-work","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/businesstech.co.za\/news\/government\/175053\/watch-molefe-dances-as-eskom-employees-welcome-him-back-to-work\/","title":{"rendered":"Watch: Molefe dances as Eskom employees welcome him back to work"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Returning Eskom CEO Brian Molefe has made his way back to the power utility&#8217;s HQ, dancing along to a raucous welcome back from Eskom employees.<\/p>\n<p>Footage from the SABC has captured the moment Molefe walked in at Eskom&#8217;s Megawatt Offices on Monday (15 May), to cheers, singing and ululating from the state utility&#8217;s employees.<\/p>\n<p>Molefe then broke into dance as the crowd cheered.<\/p>\n<p>The CEO was back at his old job on Monday despite protests and outcry from the ANC and opposition parties alike that his return was ordered and approved by government.<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-video\" data-lang=\"en\">\n<p dir=\"ltr\" lang=\"en\">This is how <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/hashtag\/BrianMolefe?src=hash\">#BrianMolefe<\/a> was welcomed at <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/hashtag\/Eskom?src=hash\">#Eskom<\/a> this morning, workers seemed happy with his return at Megawatt Park. <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/hashtag\/sabcnews?src=hash\">#sabcnews<\/a> <a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/Khqf2plqJ8\">pic.twitter.com\/Khqf2plqJ8<\/a><\/p>\n<p>\u2014 Mweli Masilela (@mwelimasilela) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/mwelimasilela\/status\/864048426442469376\">May 15, 2017<\/a><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><script async src=\"\/\/platform.twitter.com\/widgets.js\" charset=\"utf-8\"><\/script><\/p>\n<p>Molefe stepped down from his position in 2016, after being implicated in the Public Protector&#8217;s State of Capture report, in which he was found to be in direct contact with the Gupta family over a short period of time.<\/p>\n<p>It has been alleged that the executive was a key player in much of the support the Gupta family received from Eskom, including favourable contract negotiations, as well as a loan in the form of forward payments, which allowed the family to purchase Optimum Coal mines from Glencore.<\/p>\n<p>When he resigned, Molefe said it was with good governance in mind.<\/p>\n<p>However, as part of his exit deal, he was to be handed a R30 million golden handshake, which, when brought to light, was challenged by the department of Public Enterprises.<\/p>\n<p>Minister Lynne Brown ordered the Eskom board to negotiate a better deal.
