{"id":175335,"date":"2017-05-16T11:24:30","date_gmt":"2017-05-16T09:24:30","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/businesstech.co.za\/news\/?p=175335"},"modified":"2017-05-16T11:26:56","modified_gmt":"2017-05-16T09:26:56","slug":"seacom-to-add-significant-capacity-in-2017","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/businesstech.co.za\/news\/internet\/175335\/seacom-to-add-significant-capacity-in-2017\/","title":{"rendered":"Seacom to add significant capacity in 2017"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Seacom, a provider of <span class=\"st\">terrestrial high-speed fibre-optic cable, <\/span>says it plans to significantly upgrade network bandwidth in 2017 to cater for the growth of big data, the cloud and video.<\/p>\n<p>Seacom said it has invested in shifting all key elements of the network to 100G technology, which increases capacity throughput while reducing cost.<\/p>\n<p>The tech infrastructure group said that initially, it will light 500Gbps in new capacity on the new backbone platform from Africa to Europe that came online in January 2017.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Thanks to the new technology, additional upgrades can be done as needed with less than 30 days\u2019 lead-time,&#8221; it said in a statement on Tuesday.<\/p>\n<p>The company is also expanding its coverage into new regions and countries.
