{"id":176097,"date":"2017-05-22T09:32:12","date_gmt":"2017-05-22T07:32:12","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/businesstech.co.za\/news\/?p=176097"},"modified":"2017-05-22T09:38:47","modified_gmt":"2017-05-22T07:38:47","slug":"facebooks-secret-internal-rules-on-porn-and-hate-speech-leaked","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/businesstech.co.za\/news\/internet\/176097\/facebooks-secret-internal-rules-on-porn-and-hate-speech-leaked\/","title":{"rendered":"Facebook&#8217;s secret internal rules on porn and hate speech leaked"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Leaked Facebook documents show how the social media giant moderates issues including hate speech, terrorism, pornography on its site.<\/p>\n<p>According to a report by the Guardian newspaper in the UK, citing the Facebook&#8217;s internal guidelines, the social media network, moderators have become overwhelmed by the volume of work &#8211; often having \u201cjust 10 seconds\u201d to make a decision.<\/p>\n<p>The Guardian said it had seen more than 100 internal training manuals, spreadsheets and flowcharts showing &#8216;secret rules and guidelines&#8217; for deciding what its two billion users can post onto the site.<\/p>\n<p>The listed company is believed to review in excess of 6.5 million reports of potentially fake accounts a week. &#8220;Facebook cannot keep control of its content,\u201d a source told the Guardian. \u201cIt has grown too big, too quickly.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>According to the Guardian:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>\u00a0Videos of violent deaths, while marked as disturbing, do not always have to be deleted because they can help create awareness of issues such as mental illness.<\/li>\n<li>Facebook will allow some &#8220;newsworthy exceptions&#8221; to photographic nudity as well as &#8220;hand-made&#8221; nude art, but other photos and digital art are off-limits.<\/li>\n<li>Facebook will allow users to livestream attempts to self-harm because it \u201cdoesn\u2019t want to censor or punish people in distress who are attempting suicide\u201d &#8211; the paper said.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Facebook&#8217;s head of global policy management, Monica Bickert, said in a statement: &#8220;Keeping people on Facebook safe is the most important thing we do.
