ANC spokesperson Zizi Kodwa says that not a single minister contacted about being implicated in the leaked Gupta emails has challenged their veracity or disputed them – and some have even confirmed that they are accurate.<\/p>\n
Speaking to the Mail & Guardian<\/a><\/strong>, Kodwa said the ANC wants the government to act against those implicated in the mail – including cabinet ministers – instead of waiting for a judicial commission of inquiry to be set up.<\/p>\n The ANC is in upheaval at the moment, as leaders stress about the damage being done to the party’s reputation in the wake of the leaks and other scandals.<\/p>\n According to the Mail & Guardian, ANC secretary general Gwede Mantashe has been contacting ministers implicated in the Gupta leaks, as well as those who are said to have signed a letter to the public protector calling for an investigation into corruption at National Treasury.<\/p>\n Kodwa said that the feedback Mantashe has received is that none of the ministers whose names are on the letter signed it.<\/p>\n With the emails, Kodwa said that none of the ministers contacted were able to say “No, that email is wrong” – except for a few who confirmed the emails.<\/p>\n Kodwa told the paper that government must act sooner rather than later, as a dark cloud was hanging over the ministries implicated.<\/p>\n Some of the ministers who have cropped up in the email leaks include\u00a0Public Service and Administration Minister Faith Muthambi, Minerals Minister Mosebenzi Zwane, Co-operative Governance and Traditional Affairs Minister Des van Rooyen and Finance Minister Malusi Gigaba.<\/p>\n Mantashe has denied contacting any ministers.<\/p>\n The National Prosecuting Authority and the Hawks this week confirmed that they were launching an investigation into allegations of state capture, after witnesses came forward with evidence of criminal activity.<\/p>\n The office of the Public Protector has also announced that it will launch a new investigation into state capture, focusing on the allegations surrounding the leaked emails, with a focus on Eskom, Transnet and Prasa.<\/p>\n The Public Protector will also investigate allegations related to the ministers implicated in the emails, like minister Faith Muthambi allegedly leaking confidential information from cabinet meetings to the Guptas.<\/p>\n You can read the full story on the Mail & Guardian<\/a><\/strong>.<\/em><\/p>\n
