Virgin Mobile SA says it has identified a new CEO to replace Steve Bailey, who stepped down from his post at the end of May; however, his identity or joining date is not yet ready to be made public.<\/p>\n
Jonathan Newman, chief strategy & marketing officer at Virgin Mobile South Africa said: \u201cWe have identified a new CEO but have not made his identity or joining date public.\u201d<\/p>\n
In the meantime, Newman says that Virgin Mobile SA subscriber numbers have crept up to a figure approaching 400,000.<\/p>\n
In June, Virgin Group and Friendi Group signed a strategic partnership agreement for the Middle East and Africa.<\/p>\n
The groups would merge their regional telecom operations to create a combined entity to be called \u201cVirgin Mobile Middle East & Africa\u201d (VMMEA), which would develop and operate mobile telecommunications businesses across the region.<\/p>\n
Virgin is the majority shareholder in Virgin Mobile South Africa, while Friendi Group\u00a0is a Mobile Virtual Network Operator (MVNO) group in the Middle East.<\/p>\n
The combined group would manage the current operations of Virgin Mobile in South Africa and Friendi Group\u00a0in Oman, Jordan and Saudi Arabia, creating a sizeable regional mobile telecom player with more than one million customers.<\/p>\n
TechCentral reported on Tuesday that\u00a0Steve Bailey has walked away from Nigeria\u2019s Glo Mobile, a mere month into his tenure as chief commercial officer.<\/p>\n
