{"id":180411,"date":"2017-06-21T08:07:37","date_gmt":"2017-06-21T06:07:37","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/businesstech.co.za\/news\/?p=180411"},"modified":"2017-06-21T08:07:37","modified_gmt":"2017-06-21T06:07:37","slug":"5-important-things-happening-in-south-africa-today-84","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/businesstech.co.za\/news\/government\/180411\/5-important-things-happening-in-south-africa-today-84\/","title":{"rendered":"5 important things happening in South Africa today"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Here&#8217;s what is happening in and affecting South Africa today:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.bloomberg.com\/politics\/articles\/2017-06-20\/s-africa-s-anc-rejects-ombudsman-s-call-to-change-constitution\">The ANC has rejected Public Protector Busisiwe Mkhwebane&#8217;s call for the Constitution to be changed, saying that it is not within her mandate to call for such changes. <\/a><\/strong>The party is the latest in a growing list of of bodies, parties and experts who are against Mkhwebane&#8217;s suggestion that the Reserve Bank&#8217;s mandate be changed from protecting the country&#8217;s currency, to the vague ideal of protecting citizens&#8217; socio-economic condition.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li><strong><a href=\"http:\/\/www.biznews.com\/guptaleaks\/2017\/06\/20\/bell-pottinger-anc-mk-anti-white\/\">The latest Gupta leak analysis by amaBhungane shows how PR firm Bell Pottinger was paid over R5 million to assist the ANC Youth League and the MK Veterans<\/a><\/strong> in pushing an anti-white &#8220;economic apartheid&#8221; narrative. The revelations tie up these two groups in the growing Gupta web, which includes work done for president Jacob Zuma and his family.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li><strong><a href=\"http:\/\/ewn.co.za\/2017\/06\/21\/guptaleaks-mosebenzi-zwane-condemns-attacks-on-govt-staff\">Mineral resources minister Mosebenzi Zwane says that he and other ministers whose names have turned up in the Gupta leaks are being treated unfairly<\/a><\/strong>, and are being labelled corrupt despite no court finding them guilty of such activity. Zwane says the allegations are a plot against &#8216;dedicated&#8217; ministers, and insists they won&#8217;t stop doing what they set out to achieve.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li><strong><a href=\"http:\/\/www.iol.co.za\/business-report\/anc-meet-chamber-of-mines-over-mining-charter-9895937\">The South African Chamber of Mines will be meeting with the ANC over the new mining charter,<\/a><\/strong> as the party looks to address concerns over the implications of the charter. The Chamber says the process in developing the charter was flawed and will approach the courts to block it.
