Whistleblowing website WikiLeaks announced Wednesday that it was running out of money, saying it had only 100,000 euros left for 2012.<\/p>\n

That money will be depleted in a few months if it does not get any further donations, according to the organisation. The group needs 1 million euros immediately, it said.<\/p>\n

Donations are the most important source of income for WikiLeaks – these were collected though Germany’s Wau-Holland-Foundation.<\/p>\n

WikiLeaks criticised credit card companies Visa and MasterCard for undermining the organisation by stopping to forward donations in 2010.<\/p>\n

The WikiLeaks platform was founded by Julian Assange and has published more than 250,000 internal documents from US-embassies around the world. Assange has sought refuge in Ecuador’s embassy in London to avoid extradition to Sweden on sex allegations.<\/p>\n
