Direct Pay Online (DPO) Group, through its South African subsidiary DPO SA, has acquired PayThru South Africa, a cloud-based payment gateway that specializes in the integration of mobile devices.<\/p>\n
Direct Pay Online, which processes merchant payments, mobile money and e-wallets, said the acquisition is in line with its strategy to strengthen its positioning locally and establish itself as a leading payment service provider on the continent.<\/p>\n
PayThru was established in South Africa in 2010 and is a subsidiary of PayThru UK. Its clients in SA include online retailers Takealot.com, Superbalist.com and online food delivery service Mr. Delivery, which will all be served by the DPO group.<\/p>\n
Direct Pay Online was established in Kenya in 2006 and has since expanded to Uganda, Rwanda, Zanzibar, Tanzania, Ethiopia, Zambia, South Africa, Zimbabwe, Namibia and Botswana.<\/p>\n
It merged with online payments processor PayGate in 2016, and in March of this year, it expanded into Botswana and Namibia with the acquisition of Virtual Card Services, a credit, debit and smart card processing system for electronic payments.<\/p>\n
