{"id":183433,"date":"2017-07-08T08:00:11","date_gmt":"2017-07-08T06:00:11","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/businesstech.co.za\/news\/?p=183433"},"modified":"2017-07-07T18:00:45","modified_gmt":"2017-07-07T16:00:45","slug":"5-signs-you-maybe-shouldnt-have-a-credit-card","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/businesstech.co.za\/news\/banking\/183433\/5-signs-you-maybe-shouldnt-have-a-credit-card\/","title":{"rendered":"5 signs you maybe shouldn&#8217;t have a credit card"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>If you constantly find yourself impulsively spending on your credit card, yet dreading to check how much you owe on your statement at the end of the month, there is a high likelihood you are misusing your credit card.<\/p>\n<p>According to Jonathan de Beer, head of collections at FNB Credit Card, a credit card can be quite convenient and rewarding if you need safe and instant access to cash.<\/p>\n<p>However, you can easily find yourself in an unnecessary financial predicament if you are not careful with your spending.<\/p>\n<p>He points out five tell-tale signs you could be misusing your credit card:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Feeling guilty after spending<\/strong> \u2013 guilt could indicate that you are either buying what you do not really need, buying without checking your budget or you know you shouldn\u2019t be making the purchase but you are still going ahead because you can.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Can\u2019t pay extra on your credit card debt<\/strong> &#8211; if you can\u2019t even afford to make an additional payment on the required minimum monthly amount, you could be heading for trouble and need to carefully monitor your spending.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Getting a shock when checking your statement<\/strong> \u2013 a good debt management strategy involves knowing your current financial position and putting measures in place to manage it. This involves keeping up to date with your spending on a regular basis.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Shuffling debt between different credit cards<\/strong> &#8211; having multiple credit cards and using them to settle your debt could leave you in serious financial difficulties.
