{"id":183897,"date":"2017-07-06T07:34:26","date_gmt":"2017-07-06T05:34:26","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/businesstech.co.za\/news\/?p=183897"},"modified":"2017-07-06T07:34:26","modified_gmt":"2017-07-06T05:34:26","slug":"korean-bitcoin-exchange-hacked","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/businesstech.co.za\/news\/banking\/183897\/korean-bitcoin-exchange-hacked\/","title":{"rendered":"Korean bitcoin exchange hacked"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>One of the largest bitcoin exchanges has been hacked in South Korea, with the personal data of up to 30,000 customers compromised.<\/p>\n<p>According to a report from <a href=\"http:\/\/english.yonhapnews.co.kr\/national\/2017\/07\/03\/52\/0302000000AEN20170703010400320F.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Yonhap News<\/a>, the state-run Korea Internet &amp; Security Agency received a call from Bithumb on Friday that its data on customers had been leaked.<\/p>\n<p>It reported that Bithumb had noted that one of its employees&#8217; home personal computers had been hacked.<\/p>\n<p>Bithumb enables its members to buy and sell the virtual currencies Bitcoin and Ethereum, and is believed to be among the five largest exchanges in the world.<\/p>\n<p>Some customers claimed they suffered financial damage, with reports from BraveNewCoin claiming\u00a0 losses in the &#8220;billions&#8221;.
