{"id":18451,"date":"2012-07-23T11:02:38","date_gmt":"2012-07-23T09:02:38","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/businesstech.co.za\/news\/?p=18451"},"modified":"2012-07-23T11:05:16","modified_gmt":"2012-07-23T09:05:16","slug":"ellies-lifts-full-year-earnings-73-3","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/businesstech.co.za\/news\/hardware\/18451\/ellies-lifts-full-year-earnings-73-3\/","title":{"rendered":"Ellies lifts full-year earnings by 73.3%"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Ellies Holdings has reported a strong set of results\u201a with headline earnings per share up 73.3% to 54.45 cents for the year ended April 2012 from 31.42 cents a year ago.<\/p>\n<p>Revenue grew 30% to R1.711 billion\u201a while Ebitda rose by 71% to R273.4 million.<\/p>\n<p>Ebitda margin was 15.9% compared to 12.1% for 2011. The increase is primarily as a result of improved margins in the Infrastructure division\u201a it said.<\/p>\n<p>Profit before tax rose by 73% to R230 million as a result of improved gross profit margins and capacity utilisation\u201a despite a loss from an associate amounting to R4.4 million.<\/p>\n<p>A cash dividend of 10 cents per share was declared.<\/p>\n<p>Ellies is involved in diversified sectors\u201a including consumer goods\u201a renewable energy\u201a and power and telecommunications infrastructure serving the local and African markets.<\/p>\n<p>CEO Wayne Samson highlighted the \u201coutstanding performance from the infrastructure division\u201a which exceeded our expectations.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cMegatron Federal not only performed above expectation financially\u201a but from a technological perspective\u201a it is a leader in its market\u201a always providing cost effective\u201a leading edge solutions\u201a some of which have received international recognition\u201a\u201d said Samson.<\/p>\n<p>The infrastructure division reported a 158% growth in revenue to R559.2 million and an increase in profit before interest and tax of 299% to R91.1 million.<\/p>\n<p>The improved earnings growth is mainly attributable to the improvement in product offerings across various sectors in which Megatron operates.<\/p>\n<p>The consumer goods division achieved a full year profit before interest and taxation growth of 32% to R164.6m. The Ellies Renewable Energy division had successfully completed a third of phase one of the Project Power Save initiative by year end\u201a with a total of 170MW currently removed from the national grid.<\/p>\n<p>Looking ahead\u201a Samson said Ellies remains prepared for the upcoming Digital Terrestrial Television (DTT) roll out in both South Africa and Southern Africa\u201a with established strategic partnerships in place.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAlthough there are no new developments to report\u201a Ellies is looking forward to being involved in this project which will form a major part of our business activities for the coming year or two\u201a\u201d said Samson.<\/p>\n<p>The Ellies Renewable Energy division has proved to be highly successful and continues to roll out additional \u201cshop within a shop \u201c renewable energy stores throughout the country\u201a increasing market share in this space.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe are exceptionally pleased with what ERE has achieved in this financial year\u201a and look forward to the possibilities for the coming year\u201a\u201d added Samson.<\/p>\n<p>Megatron\u2019s continued success is rooted in its strong order book\u201a positioned towards sustainable earnings\u201a as well as the pursuit of opportunities in South Africa and the rest of Africa. The division is finalising the sale of its first Bladeroom data centre.
