EOH is set to launch a job creation initiative which is aimed at stimulating the job market in South Africa.<\/p>\n
According to EOH, youth make up 75% of South Africa’s over 5 million unemployed people – something which the JSE-listed IT service provider believes falls within the responsibility of business to rectify.<\/p>\n
“EOH\u2019s view is that Job Creation is primarily the responsibility of business,” said EOH’s CEO, Asher Bohbot.<\/p>\n
“Government’s role is to create the environment and incentives for business to thrive and create jobs. Government can’t shoulder the burden, and definitely is not able to employ more people.”<\/p>\n
EOH estimates that South Africa is currently off-shoring between 20,000 and 25,000 jobs – jobs which the company aims to “bring home” over the next 3 years.<\/p>\n
The company also wants to use its initiative to create internships for graduates and matriculants to combat the shortage of skills in the country.<\/p>\n
“We are short of skills, rather than short of jobs – one set of skills equals one job,\u201d Bohbot continued.<\/p>\n
“We have a need to [train] our people, starting with school leavers and graduates through Learnership and Internship programmes.”<\/p>\n
“At EOH we have 600 learners and interns who represent 15% of our workforce; just imagine, theoretically if every business in SA were to do the same, it would mean the employment of hundreds of thousands of young South Africans,” Bohbot said.<\/p>\n
