The 63rd running of the Fortune 500<\/a> list reveals that the top US companies represent two-thirds of the US GDP with $12 trillion in revenues, $890 billion in profits, $19 trillion in market value.<\/p>\n

The list ranks companies by total revenues for their respective fiscal years, and includes only companies that are incorporated in the US and operate in the US and file financial statements with a government agency.<\/p>\n

Retaining its position at the top of the list is retail giant Walmart, which brought in $485.9 billion in revenue in its most recent financial year – more than double that of second placed Berkshire Hathaway of Warren Buffett fame, with revenue of $223.6 billion.<\/p>\n

Apple remains the biggest tech company in the world, with revenue of $215.6 billion, though it is not the only tech or telecom company represented in the top 10, with telecoms giant, AT&T, listed at 9th with revenue of $163.8 billion.<\/p>\n

The lowest ranked company, ABM Industries – which also represents the ‘cut off’ point for companies to make the top 500 – reported total revenues of $5.15 billion.<\/p>\n

Looking at profits, things change quite substantially.<\/p>\n

Walwart drops to 11th position (with profits of $13.6 billion), making way for Apple to take the crown with profits of $45.7 billion. This is far ahead of the number two profiteer, JP Morgan Chase, whose profits came to $24.7 billion in the most recent financial year.<\/p>\n

Apple, which is the 9th largest company in the world, according to the Forbes 2000<\/a><\/strong> ranking, is also the most profitable company in the world – even higher than the Chinese banks which fill the top of the global ranking.<\/p>\n
