{"id":187355,"date":"2017-07-24T12:20:38","date_gmt":"2017-07-24T10:20:38","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/businesstech.co.za\/news\/?p=187355"},"modified":"2017-07-24T14:04:27","modified_gmt":"2017-07-24T12:04:27","slug":"increase-in-short-course-lies-cropping-up-on-cvs","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/businesstech.co.za\/news\/business\/187355\/increase-in-short-course-lies-cropping-up-on-cvs\/","title":{"rendered":"Increase in &#8220;short course&#8221; lies cropping up on CVs"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>South Africa has seen an exponential rise in the number of short courses or short learning programmes offered at a tertiary level, due to their cost effectiveness and serving as a great addition to a resume.<\/p>\n<p>However, data published by background screening company, Managed Integrity Evaluation (MIE), shows a 5% jump in the number of discrepancies for these types of qualifications in South Africa.<\/p>\n<p>The results from MIE\u2019s Background Screening Index for 2016 revealed that the most common qualification discrepancies found were international at 45.43% (42.01% in 2015), Africa at 37% (33.90%) and tertiary short course at 29.64% (24.85%).<\/p>\n<p>The company conducted a total of 561,346 qualification checks in 2016 \u2013 up 17% from 2015.<\/p>\n<p><a  data-lightbox=\"post-image\" href=\"https:\/\/businesstech.co.za\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/07\/MIE.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-187363\" src=\"https:\/\/businesstech.co.za\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/07\/MIE.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"599\" height=\"385\" srcset=\"https:\/\/businesstech.co.za\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/07\/MIE.png 599w, https:\/\/businesstech.co.za\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/07\/MIE-300x193.png 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 599px) 100vw, 599px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>&#8220;MIE\u2019s results highlight that a candidate\u2019s educational history is the most likely aspect to contain discrepancies when compared to other background screening checks,&#8221; the report said.
