{"id":187727,"date":"2017-07-25T07:48:55","date_gmt":"2017-07-25T05:48:55","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/businesstech.co.za\/news\/?p=187727"},"modified":"2017-07-25T07:52:50","modified_gmt":"2017-07-25T05:52:50","slug":"5-important-things-happening-in-south-africa-today-108","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/businesstech.co.za\/news\/business\/187727\/5-important-things-happening-in-south-africa-today-108\/","title":{"rendered":"5 important things happening in South Africa today"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Here&#8217;s what is happening in and affecting South Africa today:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.dailymaverick.co.za\/article\/2017-07-25-guptaleaks-another-german-software-giant-implicated-in-kickback-payments\/#.WXbZk4h96Uk\">Another German software group &#8211; Software AG &#8211; has been implicated in Gupta kickbacks, the latest Gupta leaks reveal.<\/a><\/strong> Like with SAP and CAD House, emails and documents show that Software AG entered into a similar agreement with Gupta-controlled group, Global Softech Solutions, where it offered 35% commission on a R180 million contract with Transnet.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/mybroadband.co.za\/news\/cellular\/220880-disappearing-airtime-is-real-we-have-the-proof.html\">An investigation by MyBroadband has solved the mystery surrounding disappearing airtime on MTN&#8217;s network<\/a><\/strong>. After discovering airtime slowly decreasing on an MTN SIM, the operator offered an explanation: it charges 3c every time an LTE-enabled device starts a new session on its LTE network &#8211; whether data is activated or not.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.timeslive.co.za\/sunday-times\/business\/2017-07-24-saa-asked-treasury-for-r10bn-in-march-malusi-gigaba-discloses\/\">Finance minister Malusi Gigaba has revealed that failed airline, South African Airways, was looking for a R10 billion bailout in March of this year.<\/a><\/strong> Gigaba gave the airline R2.2 billion this month to help it pay off a loan &#8211; but analysts say that it is far from enough. SAA needs R19 billion to cover its debts and stay operational. It is losing R370,000 a month.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.timeslive.co.za\/news\/south-africa\/2017-07-25-fnb-safety-deposit-box-victims-fuming\/\">FNB has started emailing victims of 2016&#8217;s safety deposit heists with settlement deals &#8211; and clients are not happy.<\/a><\/strong> According to reports, FNB&#8217;s settlements are between 10% and 20% of the value of items stolen in the heists, despite being presented with evidence of what was in a given box.
