Public service and administration minister Faith Muthambi splashed out on a luxury trip for 30 family and friends costing tax payers R300,000, a new report from the Sunday Times shows.<\/p>\n
The former communications minister also hired the 21-year-old daughter of controversial former SABC employee, Hlaudi Motsoeneng.<\/p>\n
The Sunday paper reported that Muthambi flew an entourage of family and friends to Cape Town to watch her budget speech in May as the new minister of public service and administration, costing tax paers hundreds of thousands of rands.<\/p>\n
The trip\u2019s guests included her mother, aunt, sister, and son, and former SABC board chairwoman, Ellen Tshabalala.<\/p>\n
Muthambi told the Sunday Times that she \u201cwas requested by the department to provide the required lists as common cause and practice within the allocated budget\u201d.<\/p>\n
The paper said that the minister also appointed former SABC COO Hlaudi Motsoeneng\u2019s daughter without following prescribed processes, along with the appointment of a former police constable as a personal assistant without following procedure.<\/p>\n
Earlier this month, the Organisation Undoing Tax Abuse (Outa) laid treason charges against Muthambi, citing information contained in the #GuptaEmails which suggested that Muthambi “knowingly and deliberately shared three confidential Cabinet memoranda, through emails with Tony Gupta, Duduzane Zuma and Sahara\u2019s CEO Ashu Chawla”.<\/p>\n
