The types of jobs and fields South African women are applying and working also differs drastically to those of men.<\/p>\n
However, while the report found that in the past women were seen working mostly in teaching, administrative and clerical roles, today there seems to be a healthier mix of women in other professions.<\/p>\n
Despite the improvement across the science, technology, engineering and mathematics<\/span> (STEM) and professional fields, most respondents indicated that they were unhappy with their current jobs as well as senior management at these organisations.<\/p>\n More than 50% of participants have been in their current job for less than three years.<\/p>\n While only 22% of participants feel that there is an opportunity for advancement within their organisations, gender wasn\u2019t necessarily the only obstacle that stood out as preventing women from advancing in their careers.<\/p>\n Top reasons included a balanced mix of skills, gender and experience.<\/p>\n According to a May 2017 Bankserv report<\/a><\/strong>, the\u00a0median take-home salary rose by 2.2% from a year ago. In addition, the nominal average salary rose by 7.3% to R13,958 in April.<\/p>\n This matches up with CareerJunction’s data which found that the average monthly income (before deductions) for women in South Africa was between R10,000 – R15,000 (14%), tied with the R20,000-R30,000 income bracket.<\/p>\n![\"\"](\"https:\/\/businesstech.co.za\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/08\/Women-jobs.jpg\")
