{"id":191900,"date":"2017-08-13T07:05:51","date_gmt":"2017-08-13T05:05:51","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/businesstech.co.za\/news\/?p=191900"},"modified":"2017-08-13T07:05:51","modified_gmt":"2017-08-13T05:05:51","slug":"how-faith-muthambi-looks-after-her-family-with-taxpayer-money-report","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/businesstech.co.za\/news\/government\/191900\/how-faith-muthambi-looks-after-her-family-with-taxpayer-money-report\/","title":{"rendered":"How Faith Muthambi &#8220;looks after&#8221; her family with taxpayer money: report"},"content":{"rendered":"<p data-bind=\"text: $data\">Public service and administration minister Faith Muthambi has hired over 27 support staff members since taking office in May \u2014 allegedly without job ads or interviews, according to a report by the <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.timeslive.co.za\/sunday-times\/news\/2017-08-12-minister-muthambi-puts-great-faith-in-her-family\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Sunday Times<\/a><\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p data-bind=\"text: $data\">The report has emerged just days before Muthambi is set to\u00a0appear before parliament\u00a0to explain flying 30 friends and family members to Cape Town for her budget speech at a cost of R500,000.<\/p>\n<p data-bind=\"text: $data\">According to the report, the majority of her\u00a0office is also staffed with friends and relatives. These include uncles and cousins, who have been hired as drivers, deputy directors and even a \u201cfood services aide\u201d \u2014 all allegedly without following due process.<\/p>\n<p data-bind=\"text: $data\">The 27 hires far surpasses the\u00a0ministerial handbook provision, which allows a minister to appoint only 10 people for various functions, plus two advisers.<\/p>\n<p data-bind=\"text: $data\">However, this is not the first time Muthambi has faced allegations of nepotisim.<\/p>\n<p data-bind=\"text: $data\">In her previous post as communications minister, Muthambi employed 15 support staff in her office.
