{"id":192250,"date":"2017-08-15T07:44:08","date_gmt":"2017-08-15T05:44:08","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/businesstech.co.za\/news\/?p=192250"},"modified":"2017-08-15T07:44:08","modified_gmt":"2017-08-15T05:44:08","slug":"5-important-things-happening-in-south-africa-today-122","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/businesstech.co.za\/news\/business\/192250\/5-important-things-happening-in-south-africa-today-122\/","title":{"rendered":"5 important things happening in South Africa today"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Here\u2019s what is happening in and affecting South Africa today:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong><a href=\"http:\/\/www.news24.com\/SouthAfrica\/News\/exclusive-guptas-blue-lights-mystery-solved-20170814\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">The leaked Gupta emails have reportedly revealed why blue-light vehicles illegally ferried hundreds of guests to the Gupta&#8217;s Sun City wedding.<\/a><\/strong> The vehicles reportedly belonged to\u00a0Phineas Manthata\u00a0owner of Instrumentation for Traffic Law Enforcement (ITLE), which is a supplier of blue lights to various units of the South African Police Service (SAPS).\u00a0Manthata who is a staunch ally of President Jacob Zuma, also reportedly listed property&#8217;s owned by the Gutpa&#8217;s as his residential address.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.businesslive.co.za\/bd\/companies\/energy\/2017-08-15-treasury-gets-nod-to-amend-eskom-report\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Finance Minister Malusi Gigaba has reportedly reached an agreement with parliament to amend\u00a0Treasury\u2019s report on Eskom\u2019s coal-supply agreements with Tegeta.<\/a><\/strong> According to Scopa chairperson Themba Godi, the report did not take into account the recent\u00a0forensic report and called for a\u00a0R659 million payment to Tegeta to be written off as &#8220;irregular expenditure&#8221;.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.businesslive.co.za\/bd\/national\/2017-08-15-why-sas-land-audit-is-taking-so-long\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">There is still no clarity on government&#8217;s land restitution programme in South Africa despite\u00a0spending over R33 billion on the project since 1994<\/a><\/strong>. According to\u00a0Land Reform Minister Gugile Nkwinti, his department has only<strong>\u00a0<\/strong>just concluded phase two of the land audit in terms of land ownership by race, gender and nationality. However it still\u00a0faces further challenges\u00a0as a result of the absence of information in respect of institutions, such as trusts, private and public organisations and companies, as well as sectional title holdings.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li>The Gauteng High Court is expected to rule today on th<span class=\"bold\">e Public Protector\u2019s<\/span>\u00a0directive to change the mandate of the central bank.
