South Africa has topped every other country with Google searches for \u2018Bitcoin\u2019 over the last month, according to the latest data from Google Trends.<\/p>\n

Over the past 30 days, the country topped the search term charts with it being nearly 7 percentage points clear of the next highest spot, Slovenia.<\/p>\n

According to cryptocurrency website Coin Telegraph<\/a><\/strong>, there is no specific reason why the term is charting so high, but it is likely due to the recent market fluctuations, an increasing interest in local currency exchange Luno, as well as a recent article on the Reserve Bank’s renewed interest in Bitcoin.<\/p>\n

In July it was confirmed<\/a><\/strong>\u00a0that the South African Reserve Bank (Sarb) will start testing a number of regulations related to Bitcoin and other cryptocurrencies within the coming months.<\/p>\n

While the central bank was hesitant to give any stamp of approval on the currency, it is reportedly in talks to run a “sandbox” to trial-run the technology.<\/p>\n

The sandbox will only be Bitcoin-focused during this initial phase, but is focused on applying broad regulations to all cryptocurrencies.<\/p>\n
