{"id":19349,"date":"2012-08-04T23:21:02","date_gmt":"2012-08-04T21:21:02","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/businesstech.co.za\/news\/?p=19349"},"modified":"2012-08-06T09:32:03","modified_gmt":"2012-08-06T07:32:03","slug":"acers-market-share-in-sa","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/businesstech.co.za\/news\/trending\/19349\/acers-market-share-in-sa\/","title":{"rendered":"Acer&#8217;s market share in SA"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Acer, the\u00a0multinational hardware and electronics corporation, says its currently has an approximate slice of 23%\u00a0for mobility in the South African market.<\/p>\n<p>Acer&#8217;s product range includes PC notebooks and desktops, smartphones, and monitors.<\/p>\n<p>On Thursday (2 August),\u00a0Acer announced a partnership with FNB to supply the bank&#8217;s customers with Acer products including the first Windows based PC Laptop.<\/p>\n<p>Three of Acer\u2019s top-line products &#8211; namely the Acer Aspire Ultrabook S3, M3 and the Value Series V3 PC Laptops &#8211; will be available to new and existing FNB Gold or Platinum Cheque Account clients as well as FNB Private Clients.<\/p>\n<p>Graham Braum, Acer&#8217;s country manager for Africa and Levant told BusinessTech that current Q2\/2012 data from the analysts estimates Acer Group at approximately 18% market share for all products, and about 23% for mobility for the South African market &#8211; positioning Acer Group at number two in the South African market.<\/p>\n<p>Globally, Acer claims to rank second for notebook PCs.<\/p>\n<p>The hardware group currently has presence in over 20 countries in Africa, including East, West, Central and North Africa, addressing both consumer and professional segments; according to\u00a0Braum, it employs over 85 people to look after Africa, which incorporates sales, marketing, operations, services and call centre activities.<\/p>\n<p>Regarding Acer&#8217;s plans in the tablet space, Chris Moseley, Acer\u2019s retail and telco business manager says the group has invested heavily in this form factor around the Windows 8 platform and we will launch the new form factors around the windows 8 launch in October. &#8220;It is a key category for us and we believe we will have a strong value proposition moving into 2013.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Looking further ahead,\u00a0Braum opines that mobility is still the future &#8211; incorporating notebook, ultrabook, tablet and smartphone, while accessing the cloud in both the business and personal environment.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Incorporated into these devices especially with Windows 8 being launched on notebook and ultrabook, will be touch functionality, including everything from compasses and gyroscopes to GPS and accelerometers,&#8221;
