{"id":194752,"date":"2017-08-27T09:10:09","date_gmt":"2017-08-27T07:10:09","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/businesstech.co.za\/news\/?p=194752"},"modified":"2017-08-27T09:10:09","modified_gmt":"2017-08-27T07:10:09","slug":"zuma-guaranteed-early-exit-no-matter-who-wins-in-december-elections-report","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/businesstech.co.za\/news\/government\/194752\/zuma-guaranteed-early-exit-no-matter-who-wins-in-december-elections-report\/","title":{"rendered":"Zuma guaranteed early exit no matter who wins in December elections: report"},"content":{"rendered":"<p data-bind=\"text: $data\">Nkosazana Dlamini-Zuma&#8217;s faction are discussing the early removal of president Jacob Zuma should she be elected ANC president,\u00a0to improve the party\u2019s chances in the 2019 election.<\/p>\n<p data-bind=\"text: $data\">Speaking to\u00a0the <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.timeslive.co.za\/sunday-times\/news\/2017-08-26-early-exit-likely-for-zuma-whoever-wins\/\">Sunday Times<\/a><\/strong>,\u00a0insiders said informal discussions about Zuma\u2019s early exit had been held within Dlamini-Zuma\u2019s camp as there was a realisation that it would be difficult for the party to win a general election with Zuma as head of state.<\/p>\n<p data-bind=\"text: $data\">\u00a0The removal would be in line with\u00a0Dlamini-Zuma&#8217;s strategy to disassociate herself from her former husband and would also undercut election opponent, deputy president Cyril Ramaphosa, whose backers have made it clear that Zuma would be recalled soon after this December\u2019s party elections, should he win.<\/p>\n<p data-bind=\"text: $data\">\u201cThere is that talk but we have to be careful. We have to manage this carefully. Look, we can\u2019t lose the election. We will do everything to win elections but that man still has a lot of power . . . so we have to be cautious,\u201d said a Dlamini-Zuma lobbyist.<\/p>\n<p data-bind=\"text: $data\">Speaking\u00a0on the campaign trail in North West and KwaZulu-Natal this week, Dlamini-Zuma also seemed to rule out the possibility of an agreed leadership between herself and Ramaphosa.<\/p>\n<p data-bind=\"text: $data\">\u201cThe ANC has to win the elections in 2019 regardless of whoever wins [in December]. All I say is that the winner will be ANC.
