The local motor industry faced another big blow last week, after Chrysler and Dodge announced their intentions to leave the country.<\/p>\n

This follows similar exits by Chevrolet and Citroen, both of which announced they would no longer be manufacturing or selling cars in the country.<\/p>\n

Despite this news signs are still positive in South Africa, with new vehicle sales totaling 50,675 units –\u00a0an increase of 7,0% year-on-year.<\/p>\n

The National Association of Automobile Manufacturers of South Africa (Naamsa), which are responsible for publishing the statistics, added that the strong gains in the September vehicle exports were in line with expectations and total 2017 export numbers were expected to post a marginal improvement on 2016.<\/p>\n

The passenger market in particular boasted impressive numbers, with vehicles such as the Polo Vivo and Toyota Fortuner remaining firm favourites.<\/p>\n

Other cars fared less well, with\u00a0Alfa Romeo’s Giulietta and\u00a0Mahindra’s Xylo posting just two cars sold over the course of the month.<\/p>\n

Below are the other vehicles which sold the worst during the month of September.<\/p>\n

Specialised, and high-end,vehicles below the R550,000 mark have been purposefully excluded in the interests of only showing traditional passenger and consumer vehicles.<\/em><\/p>\n
