{"id":20739,"date":"2012-08-27T11:07:37","date_gmt":"2012-08-27T09:07:37","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/businesstech.co.za\/news\/?p=20739"},"modified":"2012-11-01T15:30:14","modified_gmt":"2012-11-01T13:30:14","slug":"get-ready-to-pay-more-for-co-za","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/businesstech.co.za\/news\/internet\/20739\/get-ready-to-pay-more-for-co-za\/","title":{"rendered":"Get ready to pay more for .co.za"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>UniForum SA is set to increase its tariffs and will also shorten the period in which customers can pay for their .co.za domain, according to proposed policy changes.<\/p>\n<p>UniForum SA, trading as the ZA Central Registry (ZACR), manages and administers the .co.za domain name space.<\/p>\n<p>Over the past two years the ZACR has taken steps to align its domain name registry operating system to international standards by implementing a registration system that is based on the Extensible Provision Protocol (EPP).<\/p>\n<p>EPP is a modern XML-based protocol used to allocate objects within registries over the Internet.<\/p>\n<p>According to UniForum SA, in order to &#8220;improve the functionality of the systems and consequently create a robust domain name industry in South Africa&#8221;, the pricing structure of both the new EEP system as well as the current .co.za legacy system needs to be revised.<\/p>\n<p>The following changes are proposed to be implemented from 1 March 2013:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Annual fee will increase from R50.00 to <strong>R75.00<\/strong>;<\/li>\n<li>Newly created domains will remain <strong>suspended<\/strong> until payment is made;<\/li>\n<li>Newly created domains will have <strong>30 days<\/strong> to pay;<\/li>\n<li>Renewed domains will have <strong>60 days<\/strong> to pay.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>These proposed policy changes mean that, should a .co.za domain holder not pay their fees within 60 days, they would lose their domain.<\/p>\n<p>The current status of the policy changes is &#8220;Awaiting Public Consultation Process&#8221;
