{"id":208165,"date":"2017-10-31T11:31:29","date_gmt":"2017-10-31T09:31:29","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/businesstech.co.za\/news\/?p=208165"},"modified":"2017-10-31T11:31:29","modified_gmt":"2017-10-31T09:31:29","slug":"the-8-largest-asset-managers-in-south-africa-vs-the-world","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/businesstech.co.za\/news\/banking\/208165\/the-8-largest-asset-managers-in-south-africa-vs-the-world\/","title":{"rendered":"The 8 largest asset managers in South Africa vs the world"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>A new report published by risk management, insurance brokerage and advisory company, Willis Towers Watson, reveals the top 500 asset managers globally, including eight South African companies.<\/p>\n<p>Total assets under management (AuM) of the world\u2019s largest 500 managers grew to $81.2 trillion in 2016, representing a rise of 5.8% on the previous year, according to Willis Towers Watson\u2019s <a href=\"https:\/\/www.willistowerswatson.com\/en\/insights\/2017\/10\/The-worlds-500-largest-asset-managers-year-end-2016\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Global 500 research<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>The research, which takes into account data up to the end of 2016, found that AuM for North American managers increased by 7.7% over the period and now stand at $47.4 trillion, whilst assets managed by European managers, including the UK, increased by 2.8% to $25.8 trillion.<\/p>\n<p>The 20 largest asset managers experienced a 6.7% increase in AuM, which now stands at $34.3 trillion, compared to $26.0 trillion 10 years ago and $20.5 trillion in 2008.
