Namola, the South African security app which has been dubbed “Uber for police” is now available to download nationally.<\/p>\n
The free app allows users to share their GPS coordinates, name and nature of the emergency with a 24\/7 response call center<\/p>\n
For genuine alerts, police, other emergency response and citizen responders are then dispatched and monitored.<\/p>\n
The app also promises to\u00a0tackle inefficiencies and alleviate pressures placed on 10111 centers by pre-screening alerts. It does this by pinpointing the users exact location, making it easy for emergency services to find them.<\/p>\n
According to Yusuf Abramjee, crime activist and Namola Chief ambassador, the app was initially launched in the City of Tshwane and later, Gauteng as a way to give victims of crime access to a new innovative way of contacting the police.<\/p>\n
Following an incredibly successful launch, the app now has over 80,000 registered users.<\/p>\n
During his maiden State of the Province address, Gauteng Premier David Makhura, alluded to the use of technology in the fight against crime.<\/p>\n
In response to the Premier\u2019s call, Gauteng\u2019s MEC for Community Safety, Sizakele Nkosi-Malobane said that she\u2019s excited about national rollout of Namola.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe piloted the technology in some of the Gauteng Traffic Police high performance vehicles and the technology has proved to be effective in improving turnaround time when responding to crime incidents and emergency alerts.\u201d<\/p>\n
The app is currently available to download from the\u00a0Apple App Store and Google Play stores.<\/p>\n
